How to publish your ebook on Amazon Kindle

Amazon now works from EPUB files, which is exactly what eBook Creator produces. Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) no longer accepts the old MOBI format for new ebooks, so you do not need any conversion.

Publishing and selling on Amazon

  1. Create your ebook here. Upload your Word, PDF or text file, pick a template, add your cover, and download the EPUB. Use “Download cover (JPG)” in Step 2 to save the cover image as its own file.
  2. Sign in to KDP. Go to kdp.amazon.com and sign in with your Amazon account (or create one). Complete your author details, tax information and bank account when asked.
  3. Start a new Kindle ebook. On your Bookshelf click “Create”, then “Kindle eBook”.
  4. Fill in the book details. Enter the language, title, subtitle, author name, description, keywords and categories. A good description and keywords help readers find your book. An ISBN is optional for Kindle ebooks.
  5. Upload your manuscript and cover. Upload the EPUB as your manuscript, and the cover JPG as your cover. Answer KDP’s questions about the content honestly, including any about AI-generated material.
  6. Preview before you publish. Use KDP’s preview, and the free Kindle Previewer program from Amazon, to check the contents page, chapter starts and cover on different Kindle screens.
  7. Set price and publish. Choose territories, royalty option and price, then click Publish. Amazon reviews the book first, and it usually goes live within a few days.

Reading your book on your own Kindle

  1. Open Amazon’s Send to Kindle page (or use its app or your personal Send to Kindle email address).
  2. Upload the EPUB and choose your Kindle device or app.
  3. Amazon converts it automatically and delivers it to your library.
